It only shows the basic information about a website such as how many pages it has, how many visitors it receives, how many emails it sends, and how many ad views it has. This can be a limiting factor if you want to do advanced

  • The data, particularly in terms of page view and session volume, is usually not even directionally accurate.

We can easily spy on our rivals and understand where their traffic is coming from, which keywords are driving their organic search traffic, and even get a glimpse of their advertising strategies. This information is pure gold, allowing us to fine-tune our own strategies and steal some of their thunder.
  • Audience analysis. We need to know who our target audience is, where they hang out online, and what content they engage with the most. Similarweb's audience insights give us a comprehensive view of our audience's online behavior, helping us tailor our content and marketing efforts to reach them more effectively.

As an investment professional, I use Similarweb PRO in for two main purposes: (i) to conduct diligence on companies and industries we're considering investing in; (ii) to help gain insights on and solve business problems for the companies we already own. The product is very helpful for assessing industry trends in real-time (e.g., reduced web traffic across companies in an industry showing there may be top-line softness) and competitive differentiation (e.g., one company has a much lower bounce rate or much higher organic search than it's competitors). It is also helpful for quickly understanding a company's consumer demographics from an outside-in perspective without spending money to conduct a survey yet.

It also helps when diving deeper on marketing related questions for companies where you do have inside information. The product is very helpful for understanding customer demographics, assessing industry trends in real-time (e.g., reduced web traffic across companies in an industry showing there may be top-line softness), and competitive differentiation (e.g., one company has a much lower bounce rate or much higher organic search than its competitors). It's a flexible tool and is overall very user-friendly. We've found it to be very accurate, but it ultimately is a tool I'd recommend for initial research and needs to be supported via surveys, third-party research or conversations with management, etc.

I've brought Similarweb into the last thre companies I've worked for. at Options Medical Weight Loss we're currently using Similarweb for competitive intelligence in order to grow our paid search campaigns and affiliate program.
  • Keyword discovery for paid and organic search
  • Referring sites to your competitors to see where they have affiliate deals
  • Digital marketing spend estimates for competitors
  • You get to see what creative your competitiors are using
  • Mobile coverage could be better. It has improved but needs to continue.
  • There are so many features, its easy to get lost in the tool.
  • Clarity on the definitions on features -- maybe more tool tips with definitions.
The tool is great for competitive intelligence. Think of it as getting access to your competitors Google Analytics account. The best use I've seen for it has been in three categories:
- Organic search: Find out what terms and content your competitors are using to get free traffic
- Paid Search: What keywords are your competitors bidding on and you're not
- Affiliate Marketing: Who's pushing traffic to your competitors nand not you

I'm always wary of starting new softwares that promise us the world, but to say that I have been satisfied with Similarweb would be a monumental understatement. It has completely changed the way we prospect. I've used the other well known platforms in this space and I like them, but Similarweb blows them out of the water. It's so easy to navigate the platform, dissect the information, and find new leads/trends.

We use SimilarWeb for identifying opportunities, and comparing client vs competitor sites in terms of market position and online performance. We find the data provided useful for conducting competitive analysis, audience analysis, and comparing overall website engagement over time, all of which would be very difficult to do without the info mined by SimilarWeb.

I use SimilarWeb Pro daily for vetting all the inbound publisher signups into our network and building a prospects list for the sales team.
It's very user-friendly and provides all the necessary information to check for a particular website or mobile app. I like the My Lists option because I can bulk upload all the URLs and verify or vet them individually.
I also use Search, Adnetwork & referral sections to better understand the site's SEO and traffic.

  • Finding Competitors and similar sites to build a prospect list.
  • Similarweb sidebar- The traffic % by channel is slightly different compared to the traffic by channel in website performance.
  • Is it possible to have data for low-traffic sites as well?

For reviewing the website or app performance it is highly recommended. Suited for finding new leads/prospects for the sales team as well.
Similarweb is not useful when it comes to the low-traffic sites' analytics and insights. Overall it's pretty useful when you want to do any comp analysis or find new leads.

We use SimilarWeb PRO for industry analysis for our clients, comparing them to their competitors. We find the web and app intelligence to be incredibly helpful to understand trends, compare strategies, optimize keywords, identify new affiliate relationships, and see who is trending in terms of gaining share. Additionally, we look at keyword and search trends overall to see what is hot in the industry and where views or priorities may be shifting.
  • Ability to compare a suite of sites/apps easily
  • Dashboards to streamline analysis we revisit frequently
  • Intuitive UX allows for deep dives into data
  • Our account manager is fantastic. We may ask specific questions, but she gets to the heart of what we're trying to do and provides guidance on more ways to mine the data
  • This is an issue across providers, but having to look at iOS and Android app data separately is clunky. It would be great to be able to toggle between a group of apps instead of having to redefine which apps you're reviewing. Adding the iOS and Android data together would be even better, but I recognize some of the data is apples to oranges
  • This is long-term, but connecting the data more seamlessly across web and app would be phenomenal
Any tools such as SimilarWeb PRO and its competitors will not have data that matches a client's source data, so we look at everything directionally and tend to stay away from exact numbers. One of the challenges we had was to understand and justify our efforts in social networks in relation to flow to our website. Although the task is easy for the proprietary flow, it was also necessary to understand the competitors and how to create a goal based on a benchmark. Similarweb gave us this possibility, through a history of these other players that we could trust. This helped with both our strategy and monitoring for our reports.

  • When we monitored the flow of our company's website in GA4 and similar, we still found some disparities.
  • The list of affiliates for the industry that I find myself is still not 100% accurate, showing indications that are not very fit for my industry or that are not national even with thislocal filter.
  • Improved comparison tables in acquisition channels for more than two competitors.
When we talk about competitor analysis, which is now my main use, similarweb is great for having an overview, however if a small margin of error is needed, it may not be as qualified.

We use SimilarWeb to benchmark our company against competitors. We look at unique visitors and total visitors over time to see how we are performing vs the market. in addition, we really like looking at user demographic data to see what part of the population is using our platform. The organic search info is also helpful

  • They need to increase the number of competitors that you can compare at once
  • they should let you save competitor lists so that you can easily pull up a dashboard

Similarweb pro is definitely a great platform if you are looking to compare your website to its competitors and want to see demographic usage and want to see how users are getting to your website. The thing that Similarweb is not appropriate for is understanding the amount of spend needed to direct people to your competitor pages.

I use SimilarWeb PRO to gauge a prospects web traffic and get a snapshot of their competition to better prepare for cold outreach. Without SimilarWeb PRO it would be difficult for us to come to prospects with accurate numbers to give them an idea of what working with OpenWeb could do for them. I also use it to get new lists of prospects to reach out to
  • Gives me a clear break down of monthly site traffic
  • Shows me where site users are located
  • Breaks down the competitive landscape very clearly so I understand what angle to take when reaching out to a prospect
  • When exporting lists give an option to add a column for more countries than just the top country
I think the pages that show traffic, competition, geography, etc. all do really well and fit their need, but when it comes to creating lists and exporting them, there is a lot of versatility missing. When going to finance with a site's traffic, they want to see the top 5-10 countries and the percentage of traffic that comes from there so I wish i didn't have to copy and paste those numbers to a spreadsheet

I use SimilarWeb PRO to generate new lists of target accounts that fit our ICP to reach out to. Generally will use the information to uncover details about prospects' tech stacks to make sure I am armed with information to reach out with purpose. Will also use the competitors function to find competitors of prospects to target.

SimilarWeb is at the forefront of every assessment Wiideman builds for a client, and sometimes for prospects. As an inbound marketing consultancy, our job is to find and address opportunities such as keyword ranking gaps in search engines, inbound link opportunities, as well as to measure share of voice in search results for an industry.

SimilarWeb PRO is fantastic for doing digital marketing competitive analysis.

For example, we work with a major breakfast franchise who seeks to increase visibility within Google and other search engines. During our annual refresh of what we call our SEO Strategic Plan, we leverage SimilarWeb PRO to find out where our client is not ranking well for mission-critical keywords, such as breakfast menu items (i.e. "pancakes near me") and broader opportunities such as "breakfast place in Anaheim, CA."

With these insights, extrapolated from 300 competitors who serve breakfast, we can compile a list of new pages to help them create over the next 12 months, allowing consumers to see the brand for queries they hadn't seen them for in the in past.

I use SimilarWeb PRO mainly for organic traffic analysis of our competitors, keyword research and finding trending topics by doing reverse engineering on our major competitors. SimilarWeb PRO is an amazingly intelligent tool for preparing monthly traffic reports for your clients where you can add multiple competitors for detailed comparison. You can easily see where your traffic overlaps with your competitors, what are your low-hanging keyword opportunities that you can target in your content marketing strategy.

In my opinion, website analysis is the most powerful feature that SimilarWeb PRO offers. It lets you see very important details about your website, such as traffic by device distribution, geography, different traffic sources, organic research, top referring websites, social traffic and much more. For me, SimilarWeb PRO as a whole is an ALL-IN-ONE tool if you're serious about improving your overall online presence.



  • SimilarWeb PRO offers detailed website analysis, where you can add your website along with multiple competitors to compare traffic at so many different levels. You have the option. You can add a maximum of 5 competitors and compare them on a single screen.
  • Organic landing pages lets you see the top trending organic pages of your competitors over the period of last 28 days, last 3 months upto last 12 months. Its an extremely important features when you're just starting to develop your own content marketing strategy.
  • With Keyword Generator, you can discover decent amount of long tail easy keywords just by adding a seed phrase. It helps us find some amazing uncovered content ideas.
  • Organic competitors lets you see your closest organic competitors on Google. You can analyze and see why some of the organic competitors do well and rank for your desired keywords.
  • Website segment analysis is too hard to understand. I couldn't find any tutorial on how we could use this feature to improve our website traffic.
  • Organic search overview needs to be updated on time for each month. For example, on 1st March, 2023, you'd ideally like to see how your website performed in the last one month (Feb 2023). You cannot view that information right after the month ends.
SimilarWeb PRO is a must tool to have if you're serious about improving your online presence. There is no other tool that comes closer to SimilarWeb when you see it in terms of available features. There may be online tools that are better suited than SimilarWeb PRO to do particular tasks such as finding backlinks, referring domains, keyword research but they don't offer what SimilarWeb PRO offers as a whole. In my opinion, it's the best ALL-IN-ONE tool to improve your digital presence.

We work in the affiliate marketing industries, with several of the big brands globally such as Nike. However, we are constantly looking for new advertising so we can run our programmatic campaigns. In this search, we use SimilarWeb PRO to segment the advertisers from big to small based on the amount of monthly visits each site has. Also, it is helpful to know from which country the users are arriving, as well as the source where they are coming.

I have always been using SimilarWeb PRO mainly to extract insights around Market Shares, Industry Trends and Keyword Gap Analysis. I use custom dashboards, to monitor Industry search trend movements in order to make business/strategy decisions. The Keyword Gap Analysis tool helps us expand our reach, into key-search categories that assist our accounts to grow. We do use SimilarWeb PRO at a Global scale, monitoring multiple markets.

From an SEO point, SimilarWeb PRO is great to monitor & evaluate your search terms presence & growth, assisting to data-led decision making. It is a great tool for accounts that have huge presence, and are lacking to find new growth areas. PPC wise, similar story about assisting the strategy/structure by unlocking areas where the demand is high but the accounts' presence has room to grow. In any case, it is a tool with high time-efficiency results.
